Tornado Watch in Middle Tennessee: What You Need to Know

weather alert

Middle Tennessee is under a Tornado Watch until midnight, with severe storms already developing. Strong wind gusts of up to 70 mph (113 km/h), hail up to 2 inches (5 cm), and the possibility of tornadoes, some of them high in intensity, have been reported.

Areas at greatest risk include Clarksville and Lafayette, where the brunt of the storm is expected with torrential rain and possible tornadic activity. In Nashville, storms will be strong but of lower intensity, while in the Cumberland Plateau, the chances of storms will be lower through the weekend. This is due to a quasi-stationary front remaining over the region, bringing heavy rain and unstable conditions over the next few days.

The main expected impacts include wind gusts exceeding 70 mph, capable of causing structural damage and tree downing, hail up to 2.5 inches, similar to the size of a golf ball, and possible tornadoes that could be destructive. In addition, heavy rains are expected, potentially causing flash flooding in some areas.

Given this situation, it is essential to be prepared and take precautions. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, such as NOAA Radio, mobile apps, or television. If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in a safe location, away from windows and preferably in a low-lying area of your home. Avoid going out or driving during the storm and stay informed through official sources, such as the National Weather Service (NWS) at weather.gov, where you can enter your ZIP code for detailed information about your area.

Don't panic, but do act with caution. We will continue to share updates as the situation evolves. Share this information so more people are prepared and protected.
